MACEDON. Koinon of Macedon. Time of Severus Alexander, 222-235. Triassarion (Bronze, 25 mm, 10.94 g, 6 h). AΛEΞANΔPOY Diademed bust of Alexander the Great to right, wearing cuirass decorated with an eagle with spread wings and with his shield covering his left shoulder. Rev. KOINON MAKEΔONΩN (NE) Alexander the Great in militarily attire, resting on his shield, holding parazonium in his right hand and long transversed spear with his left; at his feet to left, set on the ground, Alexander's helmet. AMNG -. Possibly unpublished and with a wonderful reverse! Obverse slightly off-centre, otherwise, very fine.

According to Ariann, after Alexander crossed with his army the Hellespont, he was the first to disembark (like a new Protesilaos), nailed his spear against the soil and claimed Asia as "spear-won". This coin is probably depicting this event.
